Income Tax Notice Replies, Assessments and Appeals in Mumbai
A notice is a question. It deserves a precise, documented answer – before the deadline, not on it.
Most income tax notices are now issued online, many under faceless assessment, and each one has its own purpose, format and time limit. The first job is to read the notice carefully and work out exactly what is being asked – no more, no less. Then the evidence is gathered, the reply is drafted and filed on the portal, and the matter is followed through. Nishita has handled assessment proceedings before both income tax and GST authorities for clients across industries.

You tell us what's going on.

- 2
You get a checklist.
One specific list of documents for your case – nothing generic, nothing you don't need.
- 3
We do the working.
Records are reviewed, figures are matched with government portals, and the return, report or reply is prepared.
- 4
You see it before it's filed.
The draft is walked through with you, in plain language, before anything is signed or submitted.
- 5
We file and send you proof.
Acknowledgements and final copies come to you the same day.
- 6
We stay on it.
Processing, intimations and any follow-up from the department are tracked until the matter is closed.
Questions people ask
I've received an income tax notice. What should I do first?
Don't ignore it. Check it's genuine using 'Authenticate notice/order' on the income tax portal, note the response date, and share it as early as possible so there's time to gather documents properly.
Can I get more time to reply?
An adjournment can be requested online with reasons, but it's at the officer's discretion. It should be asked for well before the due date and never relied on.
Will I have to visit the income tax office?
Usually not. Faceless proceedings run entirely online, and personal hearings, where allowed, are by video conference.
What if I disagree with the assessment order?
An appeal can be filed within the time the law allows – on time is critical. A stay of demand can also be requested while the appeal is pending, subject to conditions.
