NRI and International Taxation Services in Mumbai
Indian tax for people and businesses with one foot abroad – returns, treaty relief, remittances and property sales.
Money crossing a border is taxed by two countries and watched by two sets of regulators. For NRIs, that means Indian tax on rent, interest, investments and property sales, with TDS rates that are often higher than the tax actually due. For Indian businesses, it means tax on payments to non-residents and the certificates banks need before they'll remit. Both are handled here – mostly online, so distance isn't a problem.

Questions people ask
Does an NRI have to file a return in India?
Yes, if taxable Indian income is above the basic exemption limit. It's also worth filing to claim back excess TDS – which is common on property sales and interest.
Why is the TDS on my property sale so high? Can it be reduced?
TDS on payments to non-residents is deducted on the sale price at higher rates, unless the buyer receives a lower deduction certificate. That certificate can be applied for before the sale, based on your actual gain.
Can everything be done while I'm abroad?
Yes. Returns, certificates and department responses are all online. Documents are shared electronically and calls are scheduled across time zones.
Our company is paying a foreign consultant. What do we need?
The taxability of the payment has to be determined, TDS deducted at the right rate (treaty or domestic), and Form 15CA/15CB filed before the bank remits.
